Mactaggart & Mickel expands South West Strategic Land team with senior hire
Mactaggart & Mickel is expanding its South West Strategic Land division with a senior hire as the team goes from strength-to-strength in bringing forward new development opportunities for the housebuilding market.
The team’s latest recruit Tom Harris joins as a Senior Strategic Land Manager based in the Cheltenham office.
Tom will be responsible for identifying new strategic land opportunities in the western and South West region for the Mactaggart & Mickel Group, and steering sites with development potential through the planning process.
Tom is a chartered planning and development surveyor, bringing a diverse base of experience and expertise to the group, including a four-year stint at the Jehu Group where he rose to the position of Head of Land & Partnerships.
Tom, who was born and raised in Wales, formerly worked in the affordable housing sector following his degree in Land Management from The University of Reading.
“I’m excited to join Mactaggart & Mickel at a time where the team is looking to build on its success in the South West.
“It’s a thriving part of the country with an increasing demand for more housing. We will bring our expertise together to play our part in tackling the housing crisis and support the 300,000 new homes a year target.
“But increasing the supply of sites for development is not without challenges. It’s more difficult than ever to identify and secure new sites given the planning policy and physical constraints in our area of operation. We enjoy taking on these challenges with tenacity and rigour so that even the most difficult sites can see their potential as new communities unlocked.
“I look forward to bringing a partnership approach to planning and development, and continuing to build Mactaggart & Mickel’s reputation as the go-to partner for delivering sites in the South West.”
Glasgow-based, family-owned Mactaggart & Mickel began building homes in Scotland almost 100 years ago.
The South West Strategic Land team established the office in Cheltenham in 2017 and have set out ambitious plans to expand and become the ‘go-to’ partner for identifying suitable, potential development land in the region.
Tom will be the latest addition to the South West Mactaggart & Mickel Strategic Land team, which is led by Ken Hopkins, Head of Strategic Land. Tom will report to Nevin Holden, South West Regional Manager. Michael Gooch, Strategic Land Manager South West, joined the team in July 2021.
